WSOP online is the online offering from one of the biggest names in live poker events – the World Series of Poker. You might think such a big name would make an effort with their online service, but unfortunately WSOP online just doesn't cut it and there are a lot of far better poker rooms out there. That's not to say there aren't one or two good things about it, but don't expect a level of quality you might associate with WSOP live events.
WSOP online offers a few different ways to play poker with other players across the internet. However, if you want to play for real money there is only one client on offer and that is compatible only with Windows based PCs. On the WSOP Online site you might see reference to a Facebook game as well as an iPhone app, but these are just for fun (and winning virtual bracelets) rather than for any serious playing. It's a shame then that these 'for fun' apps are in some ways better than the real downloadable client, which is starting to look a bit dated and could definitely do with an overhaul.
Tournaments-wise WSOP is pretty much on par with any run of the mill online poker room out there. There is a weekly £50,000 guaranteed tournament which attracts a lot of players as well as several high prize tournaments throughout the week. Most of the action at sit 'n' go tables is concentrated around Texas Hold'em so if you are a fan of one of the other variations WSOP Online might not be for you. 7 Card Stud tables were all but deserted when we checked during off-peak hours. You might think there would be some satellite tournaments for WSOP live events, but we couldn't find any mention of it anywhere on the site so we can only assume that, unfortunately, there aren't.
The rewards program WSOP Online offers is again quite run of the mill. At lower status levels you can swap your frequent player points for cashback or spend them in the online store and at higher levels you stand to earn big bonuses and have access to a personal account manager. If you intend on playing a lot it's well worth trying to hit one of these high levels because once you are there you can't lose it for the next 12 months, which gives you plenty of time to earn some good bonuses.
Nothing much excited us about WSOP Online, which is a shame given the potential it has as being one of the biggest organisers of live poker events in the world. WSOP Online has been around for a while now and doesn't really show many signs of improvement so we would tend to say to look elsewhere for your online poker fix. However, it's free to sign up and try if the lure of the big name is just too much for you!
